Pigeon Update: Google’s New Algorithm for Local Search Results
Google has announced a new update to make the Google maps search results more precious, fast and accurate. Last night, many SEO folks have analyzed the change in Google local search results and after a long wait Google confirmed the algorithm roll-out for US English queries.
Google has told that it is an unnamed update of July 2014. However a famous news hub SEL has given it a name “pigeon update“.
The algorithm will start showing its color in few days. You can see the changes in local search results, Google maps, spelling correction and knowledge graph. Few days’ back Google announce the availability of Google maps in Hindi and now it is working to make the Google maps searches more relevant. These changes in Google maps ensure that the Google is continuously working and trying to provide more useful and relevant result to searchers.
Effects of Pigeon Update on Search Results:
A few days ago the giant local directory & review posting site Yelp blamed Google that it is manipulating the search results for local keywords to show Google listing on top of other listings. Google was arraigned for not showing the yelp listing in search results even if some one use the word “yelp” with the keywords.
However after this update the local directory sites will take a sigh of relief because Google has changed its search result page as shown below:
In above image the yelp listing is appearing on first position for the queries includes”yelp”. Two other yelp listings are also appearing ahead of the official site of “Gary Danko“.
Google has not yet announced the launch of this update in other countries and languages nor about the percentage of queries impacted by this algorithm.
